Hats Off to Saving Face

At Royal Ascot, the horses are the supposed draw, but all attention is really on the hats. These hats are not just meant to shade your face from the sun – no, these hats are meant to shout, “Look at me!” loud and proud over the hubbub of the day.

It’s not every day that a girl gets to accessorize with feathers (excluding, of course, Bjork), so the ladies go wild.

Sophie, Countess of Wessex, commanded attention for another reason at this June’s Royal Ascot. She isn’t showing off the latest dance craze or performing a magic trick in which her left leg disappears. She is not embracing her inner flamingo. The countess is trying to regain her balance after her heels got stuck in the grass.

After this uncharacteristic bout of clumsiness, the countess laughed off the incident, swearing that she would never again leave home without her SoleMates high heel protectors.
